Testing for common arrivals of jumps for discretely observed multidimensional processes

چکیده
We consider a bivariate process Xt = (X t , X t ), which is observed on a finite time interval [0, T ], at discrete times 0, ∆n, 2∆n, · · ·. Assuming that its two components X and X have jumps on [0, T ], we derive tests to decide whether they have at least one jump occurring at the same time (“common jumps”) or not (“disjoint jumps”). There are two different tests, for the two possible null hypotheses (common jumps or disjoint jumps). Those tests have a prescribed asymptotic level, as the mesh ∆n goes to 0. We show on some simulations that these tests perform reasonably well even in the finite sample case, and we also put them in use for some exchange rates data.

Testing for Jumps in a Discretely Observed Process By
We propose a new test to determine whether jumps are present in asset returns or other discretely sampled processes. As the sampling interval tends to 0, our test statistic converges to 1 if there are jumps, and to another deterministic and known value (such as 2) if there are no jumps. The test is valid for all Itô semimartingales, depends neither on the law of the process nor on the coefficie...
متن کاملTesting and detecting jumps based on a discretely observed process
We propose a new nonparametric test for detecting the presence of jumps in asset prices using discretely observed data. Compared with the test in Aït-Sahalia and Jacod (2009), our new test enjoys the same asymptotic properties but has smaller variance. These results are justified both theoretically and numerically. We also propose a new procedure to locate the jumps. The jump identification pro...
متن کاملFunctional Relationships Between Price and Volatility Jumps and Their Consequences for Discretely Observed Data
Many prominent continuous-time stochastic volatility models exhibit certain functional relationships between price jumps and volatility jumps. We show that stochastic volatility models like the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck and other continous-time CARMA models as well as continous-time GARCH and EGARCH models all exhibit such functional relations. We investigate the asymptotic behaviour of certain functi...
متن کاملTesting Whether Jumps Have Finite or Infinite Activity
We propose statistical tests to discriminate between the finite and infinite activity of jumps in a semimartingale discretely observed at high frequency. The two statistics allow for a symmetric treatment of the problem: we can either take the null hypothesis to be finite activity, or infinite activity. When implemented on high-frequency stock returns, both tests point toward the presence of in...
متن کاملFisher ’ S Information for Discretely Sampled Lévy Processes
This paper studies the asymptotic behavior of the Fisher information for a Lévy process discretely sampled at an increasing frequency. We show that it is possible to distinguish not only the continuous part of the process from its jumps part, but also different types of jumps, and derive the rates of convergence of efficient estimators.
